Well Visits
Adults should see their doctor when they're sick and/or for annual well care visits. It is important to get well care screenings when you're not sick. A doctor's visit/exam can include:
- Complete physical exam
- Blood pressure reading
- Cholesterol check
- Blood glucose (sugar) reading - 45 and older - every 3 years if test results are normal
- Flu Shot
- Pneumonia Shot
Your doctor will discuss the preventive care you should receive. There are specific tests for women and other tests for men. There are also tests that both men and women should receive.
Preventive screening tests for women
- Mammography - every one or two years for women 40 years of age and older, or as advised by a doctor
- Pap test - every 3 years or advised by your doctor for women 18 to 64 years of age
- Bone density test - baseline test for women over 65 years of age, baseline test for women at risk who are under 65 years of age
Preventive screening for men
- PSA (screening for prostate cancer)
- 40 years and older (high risk members) - every year or as advised by your doctor
- 50 years and older - every year or as advised by your doctor
Preventive care for all adults
- Colorectal cancer screening - 50 years of age and older
- Colonoscopy - every 10 years
- Sigmoidoscopy - every 5 years
